Kalona- Audrey Hochstetler, was born July 23, 1921, in rural Parnell, Iowa, the daughter of Urie and Norma Kinsinger Swartzendruber. She attended Hesston Academy. On November 16, 1944, she was united in marriage to Emery J. Hochstetler, at her parents home. She was a member of West Union Mennonite Church. In addition to raising five children on their farm near Oxford, Iowa, Audrey enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, rug making and travel. Audrey died on Thursday, October 1, 2009, at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona, following a brief illness, at the age of 88 years. She is survived by her 5 children: Jim Hochstetler of New York, NY, Jane (Dale) Garber of Garden City, MO, Marla (Randy) Longenecker of Belle Fountaine, OH, Bill (Rosie) Hochstetler of Iowa City, IA and Angela (Mark) Fretz of Lancaster, PA; 11 grandchildren: Gina Urbanek, Tim, Kristi and Charlie Garber, Chris, Angie (Strite) and Katie Longenecker, Justin, Jenny and Joe Hochstetler and Elyse Hochstetler Fretz; 3 great grandchildren: Ellen Garber, Sophia Garber and Ella Strite; a brother Dale Swartzendruber of Kalona; and a sister Fern Eash of Wellman. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Emery in October 2004; 2 infant sons; and a sister Mary Lois Swartzendruber. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 am Monday, October 5, 2009, at the West Union Mennonite Church, in rural Parnell. Pastor David Boshart and Pastor Martha Yoder will officiate. Burial will be in the West Union Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 pm to 5 pm at the West Union Mennonite Church. A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home.
