Homestead- Rosetta Marie Frese was born April 16, 1931 in Ocheyedan, Iowa, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Bremer) Schmidt. She attended Zion Parochial School, graduated from Ocheyedan High School and attended Concordia College in Seward, NE. Rosetta was united in marriage to Ralph Frese on August 9, 1953 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan. She taught school from 1952 to 1953 in Arapahoe, NE, 1953-57 at Yuma, CO and from there she moved to the Homestead area and taught at St. John’s Parochial, Immanuel Lutheran School and the Lutheran Interparish School for many years. She also worked part time at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a nursing assistant and the Iowa City Movie Theater. Rosetta was a member of St. John Lutheran Church near Homestead where she was active in the Ladies Aid, organist and director of the Men’s Choir. Teaching children to sing was one of her greatest joys. Rosetta died on Saturday, December 12, 2009, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, at the age of 78 years. She is survived by her husband Ralph of Homestead; a daughter Marnita (Shawn) Curry of Sherrard, IL; a daughter-in-law: Barbara Frese of South English; five grandchildren: Daniel Frese, Riley (Sonia) Curry, Thomas Frese, Kenneth Jr. (Heather) Frese and Robert Frese; three great grandchildren: Reagan Curry, Craig Frese and Vanessa Frese; a brother: Eugene (Cheri) Schmidt of Ocheyedan; a sister: Janet Murphy of Phoenix, AZ and a sister-in-law: Violet Schmidt of Worthington, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son: Kenneth Frese and a brother: Allen Schmidt. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at the St. John Lutheran Church, rural Homestead. Pastor Wayne Woolery will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
