Ardith L. Glandon

SIGOURNEY-Ardith “Ardy” L. Glandon, age 95, of Sigourney, died Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Brown Deer Place in Coralville.

Ardy was born July 31, 1930, in South English, Iowa, the son of Donald and Jennie (Plank) Glandon and graduated from Sigourney High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and earned the rank of Corporal. For his actions, during his service in the Korean Conflict, Ardy earned the Bronze Star with Valor, for his bravery and heroism, saving the lives of several fellow service members at the risk of his own life.

Prior to deploying to Korea, Ardy married MariJean Gries in Sigourney on December 22, 1952. Sadly, Marijean passed away, due to cancer, on September 12, 1962, leaving behind five children under the age of eight. Ardy communicated many times, over the years, how grateful he was for the help he received from family, friends and the community during this trying period of his life. The support he received guided his belief in helping others in the following years.

On January 11, 1964, Ardy married Sally Jones, a Sigourney resident, and they welcomed a daughter a few years later. Ardy and Sally lived together in their Sigourney home until Sally’s death in April 2024. A lifelong Sigourney resident, Ardy worked for the Keokuk County Highway Department for 42 years, retiring in 1992. In his retirement, he did countless handyman jobs for many Sigourney residents.

Ardy enjoyed fishing locally and in Canada with his brothers and friends throughout the years. He enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting, shooting, working on his roses, and growing a garden. He was an avid collector of all kinds of treasures and he enjoyed whittling numerous animals and birds. The visits from his grandchildren always made Ardy smile. Ardy’s health declined after losing Sally in April 2024. Since that time, he made his home at Brown Deer Retirement in Coralville, where he peacefully passed the morning of June 6, 2026.

Ardy will be greatly missed by five children: Doug (Lynne) Glandon of Sigourney; Gary (Rita) Glandon of Craig, Nebraska, Ron (Elizabeth) Glandon of Creve Coeur, Missouri, Janet (Steve) Cooley of Holden, Massachusetts and Mike (Mary) Glandon of Auburn, Illinois; son-in-law: Matt Kruschinska; 13 grandchildren and their spouses: Christopher (Amy) Glandon, Jennifer (Jeff) Martin, Sarah (Jeff) Holden, Rebecca (Allen) Taylor, Samantha (Mike) Stasiak, Ron (Faith) Glandon, Nick (Alexa) Glandon, Kristin (Jerry) Fish, Megan (Joey) DeFilippo, Cortney (Ben Roth) Trencevski, Jacob (Casey) Glandon, Caitlin (Ryan) Graham and Jeremy (Lindsey) Glandon; 27 great grandchildren and a sister: Carol Shifflett of Webster. He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives; daughters: Julie Kruschinska, LuAnn in infancy; daughter-in-law: Edwina “Jay” Glandon; five brothers: Darrell, Keith, Norman, Roger, and Larry and sister: Beverly Hammes.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. The service will also be livestreamed on the Powell Funeral Home Facebook page. Visitation will be from noon until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney.
