Arlene Nissley

August 15, 1933 — December 14, 2020

WILLIAMSBURG - Arlene Nissley was born August 15, 1933, in rural Sharon Center, Iowa, the daughter of Simon (Dick) and Mary M. (Hochstedler) Schlabach. On October 28, 1952, she was united in marriage to Ira C. Nissley at the Parnell Mennonite Church. The couple had lived in the Williamsburg community since 1956. Alongside raising a family of four children, Arlene did bookkeeping for the family businesses, Burg Auto and Nissley Welding. She expressed her creativity with needle, thread, and cloth. She loved hosting a table full of visitors, especially for large extended family events. She will be remembered for her warm hospitality. She was a member of the West Union Mennonite Church. Arlene passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, at the age of 87 years.

Arlene is survived by four children: Darlene and Dale Chittick of Williamsburg, Keith and Gloria Nissley of Blountstown, FL; Brenda Nissley of Seattle, WA; Amy and Ardell Nissley Stauffer of Hesston, KS; five grandchildren: Carrie and Greg Dietze, Neal Chittick, Sarah and Jeremy Nissley Schultz, Max and Graham Stauffer; five great grandchildren: Camden, Ashley, Daniel, Hannah, and Jenna; three siblings: Savilla Stutzman of Sarasota,Fl, Annie Irene Snyder of Williamsburg, Duane Schlabach of Parnell; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband Ira, sister Celesta Richer, and four brothers Stanley, Alvin Ray, Larry, and Maynard.

A private family funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, December 18, 2020, at the West Union Mennonite Church in rural Parnell. Pastor John David Kenney and Pastor Martha Yoder will officiate. The service will be live streamed on the Powell Funeral Home Facebook page and website. Burial will be in the West Union Cemetery.
