Homestead- Arnold Ervin Huedepohl, was born to John & Mathilda (Heitshusen) Huedepohl, on October 27, 1912, on th family farm south of Homestead. He was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Homestead. He attended St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from Conroy High School. He attended business school in Cedar Rapids. On February 6, 1940, he was united in marriage to Vera Wardenburg, in Williamsburg. He was engaged in farming all of his life. He served on the Williamsburg Community School Board and also served as a director of Farmer's Trust and Savings Bank, Williamsburg. He also served on various church boards. After retirement they wintered in Phoenix, AZ. While in Phoenix, they attended St. Mark's Lutheran Church and Senior Seekers Bible Class. They also volunteered for Lutheran Braille Workers there. Arnold and Vera moved into Highland Ridge Retirement Community in 2006. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, softball in his youth, and shuffleboard. Arnold died Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a short illness at the age of 95 years and 2 months. Arnold is survived by his wife Vera; 2 sons Larry (Helen) Huedepohl of Homestead and Robert (Edith) Huedepohl of Williamsburg; a daughter Suzanne (Wayne) Schultz of Parker, Colorado; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers: John, Anton, Otto, Henry and Millie; 5 sisters: Esther Schnebbe, Johanna Newkirk, Ahline Witte, Mathilda Newkirk and Anna Huedepohl. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 am on Monday, December 31, 2007, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Homestead. Pastor Wayne Woolery will officiate. Burial will be in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 2:00-5:00 pm at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
