Public visitation will be held at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English on Sunday, June 20, 2004 from 5 PM until 8 PM. Private family graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 21, 2004 at the South English Cemetery. A general memorial fund has been established. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. Bernice was born on February 17, 1930 in Keswick, IA, a daughter of Elsworth James and Elsie Christina Glanz Hervey. She attended Franklin Country School and graduated from South English High School in 1947. Bernice was united in marriage to Verle E. Brubaker on January 16, 1952 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They have made their home in South English community since their marriage. Bernice was a member of the South English Union Church, the United Workers, the True Blue Club and the Twentieth Century Federated Womens Club in South English. She had recently attended the English River Church of the Brethren. Bernice volunteered many years for the American Cancer Society and loved attending sporting events. Bernice died following a brief illness at her home in South English, on Friday, June 18, 2004. She lived 74 years, 4 months and 1 day. She is survived by her husband Verle Brubaker of South English; a daughter Connie Scanlon and husband Jim of South English; son Ron Brubaker of Sigourney; brothers Robert Hervey of Webster, IA; Donald Hervey and wife Thelma of Hedrick, IA; and grandsons Benjamin, Daniel & Travis Brubaker all of Sigourney.
