DELTA – Billy Joe Vandeventer, 52, of Delta, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Bill was born on October 31, 1973, in Centerville, Iowa, to Billy Ray and Jane (Estlack) Vandeventer. Following the death of his father when Bill was six years old, his mother later married James R. Campbell, who helped raise him.

Bill graduated from Seymour High School in 1992 before proudly serving his country in the United States Navy. During his military service, he was stationed aboard the USS Saratoga and the USS Enterprise. After his honorable discharge, he earned an Associate of Arts degree in Computer Systems and Networking from Indian Hills Community College.

Throughout his career, Bill worked at Dickinson, Axmear Fabricating and Sinclair Tractor before joining Vermeer Corporation, where he was employed as a Maintenance Technician. He was a member of the Harry L. Anderson American Legion Post #34 in Oskaloosa and served the Delta community for several years as a member of the Delta Volunteer Fire Department, including serving as Fire Chief.

Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching movies with Will, Rees, and Allison, working on anything mechanical, building computers, and spending time with his family. He loved traveling, vacationing, and being around water.

He is survived by his mother, Jane Campbell of Numa; his three step-siblings, Mendy (Lance) Edgar of Baxter, James "Bud" (Michele) Campbell of What Cheer, and Rob (Stephanie) Campbell of Oskaloosa; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Ray Vandeventer; his stepfather, James R. Campbell; his brother, Robert Lee Vandeventer; and his grandparents, Eldred and Betty Estlack and Joseph and Romaine Vandeventer.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the American Legion Hall in Oskaloosa.  Burial will take place at Numa Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
