Kalona- Carolyn Hochstetler, 89, of Wellman died Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Carolyn was born October 14, 1934, in rural Parnell, Iowa, the daughter of Orval and Lavanda (Swartzendruber) Kinsinger. She graduated from Iowa Mennonite School and attended Hesston College. On October 14, 1956, Carolyn was united in marriage to Leslie Hochstetler at West Union Mennonite Church where she was a lifelong member. They made their home north of Wellman. Carolyn loved feeding people good food, opening her home to all, and being in service to others. She had a deep love for God’s creation, music, and her family and friends.
Carolyn is survived by her children; Lynn (Deb) Hochstetler of Kalona, Diane (Tony) Miller of Wellman, Bruce (Edie) Hochstetler of Wellman, Sara (Wes) Bonner of Lawrence, KS; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and siblings; Phil (Dottie) Kinsinger of Colorado Springs, CO, Kate (Ervin) Brenneman, Barbara Miller, and Nancy (John) Halder all of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leslie, sister Norma Kelting, and two brothers-in-law Garth Kelting and Kenton Miller.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, at West Union Mennonite Church. Pastor John David Kenney will officiate. Burial will be in the West Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 2:30 – 5:00 p.m. at West Union Mennonite Church. A memorial fund has been established for the Iowa City Free Lunch Program. The service will be live streamed on Powell Funeral Home’s Facebook page and at www.powellfuneralhomes.com The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is caring for Carolyn and her family.
