MILLERSBURG -- Carroll L. "Bud" Dietze, 82, died at home in Costa Mesa, California, on Sunday, April 6, 2014. Carroll was born December 21, 1931, at home in Millersburg, Iowa, the son of Louis C. and Beatrice M. (Goodman) Dietze and grew up in Millersburg and Williamsburg. He was a 1950 graduate of Davenport High School and completed R.O.T.C. training. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during the Korean War. He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Illinois, 1956-1969 and the Naval Weapons Station in Seal Beach, California, 1970-1986. In recent years, he used the nickname Bud. He liked to tinker with his classic 1955 Oldsmobile 98, was an avid reader, loved history and geography, and especially enjoyed Bible studies. He was born again in the Lord. Carroll will be deeply missed by special friends Ron and Ardith Maurel, Fountain Valley, California; brother-in-law John Massick and nephew Charles (Elizabeth) Tower, Davenport, Iowa; nieces Jean Tower Richards, Bountiful, Utah, Susan Massick, Davenport; nephew Phil Massick, Walcott, Iowa; and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Velma Tower Massick. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at the Millersburg United Methodist Church, Millersburg, Iowa. Rev. Michelle Williamson will officiate. He will be laid to rest with his parents in the Millersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until service time. A general memorial fund has been established.
