Cecil Edward Christner was born March 26, 1927 in Johnson County near Sharon Center, Iowa the son of Elam and Nettie (Swartzendruber) Christner. He attended Horse Shoe Bend rural school. Cecil lived in the Wellman and Kalona communities most all of his life. He drove a cream truck, sold Berry seed corn, did custom corn shelling, worked for Johnson County maintenance, was the Kalona Marshall from 1966 - 1973, and then drove truck for 12 years. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, mushroom hunting, being in the outdoors, and reading. He also drove school bus for College Community and Mid-Prairie Schools. Cecil was a member of the Kalona Methodist Church. Cecil died suddenly on Monday, June 14, 2004 at the Maplewood Manor in Keota at the age of 77 years. Cecil is survived by a daughter - Shirley Harvey and husband Richard of Wellman; 2 sons - Robert Christner and wife Karen of Kalona; J. Gary Christner of Cedar Rapids; 5 grandchildren - Jon Harvey and wife Jasmine of Williamsburg; Shawna Harvey-Miller and husband Byron of Wellman; Elisabeth Harvey and fiancé Cory Lewis of Omaha, Nebraska; Casey Christner and Barry Christner of Kalona; 2 great grandchildren - Meagan Harvey and Alana Lewis; a sister - Eudora Mullet and husband Henry of Kalona; 2 brothers - John Christner and wife Nellie of Washington; Leo Christner and wife Phyllis of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and 2 stepsisters - Helen Swartzendruber of Fairview, Michigan; and Verna Diltz and husband William of Collegeville, Pennsylvania; and 15 nieces and nephews; and 18 great nieces and nephews. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew William Diltz Jr. and a brother-in-law Lloyd Swartzendruber.
