SIGOURNEY-Charles Wilford Miller passed away on Friday, May 13, 2005 in Houston, Texas. He was born September 1, 1911 to William Frederick Miller and Carrie Utterback Miller in Sigourney, Iowa. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1929. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1933 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He married Avis Marguerite O'Brien in Des Moines, Iowa in 1933. Chuck was predeceased by Avis in 2000. After completing his college work at Iowa State University, he and Avis moved to Gladewater, Texas in 1933. He worked there for several years as a plant operator for Hanlon Gasoline Corporation. In 1940 they moved to Conroe, Texas where he served as plant superintendent for Midland Gasoline Corporation for fourteen years. He retired from Gulf Oil Corporation in 1975. Chuck served as President of the Gas Processors Association from 1967-1968. Chuck and Avis lived in Conroe, Texas for fifteen years. While in Conroe, Chuck was active in the Lions Club, served as Scoutmaster for Troop #143, and served on the Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and as Sunday School Superintendent for the First Methodist Church. They moved to Tulsa in 1955 and lived there for forty-one years. While there they were members of University Methodist Church and Boston Avenue Methodist Church, where Chuck served on the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee. Their travels both before and after retirement took them to several countries in Europe, Mexico, Iran, Kuwait, Korea, Japan, Australia, Africa and India. Chuck is survived by his daughter Carolyn Lee and husband Phillip Lee of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, and his son, Charles W. Miller and wife Mary Jane Miller of Houston, Texas, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Chuck was predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Fred Miller, Harry "Skinny" Miller and Harold Miller, and one sister Opal Smith. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 3005, at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney with Rev. Kate Stangl officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2005, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
