Chuck White

KEOTA-Charles N. “Chuck” White, age 95, of Keota, died Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at the Keota Health Care Center.

    Chuck was born April 7, 1928, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Charles Louis and M. Genevieve (Newton) White.  He moved to Keota with his family in 1941 and graduated from Keota High School.  Chuck served in the United States Marine Corps from October 10, 1946 until September 26, 1948.  On November 18, 1950, he married Patricia Jane Striegel at St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota.  Chuck managed the Keota Lumber Company and did rural delivery of the Des Moines Sunday Register from 1955 until 1980.  He was also a self-employed carpenter for many years, retiring in 2014.  Chuck was a member of Holy Trinity Parish, the Keota Community Club, the Keota Volunteer Fire Department for 42 years and was a former member of the Keota Jaycees.  Chuck enjoyed carpentry, staying busy, traveling and watching the Hawkeyes.

    Survivors include five children: Kristie Pepper of Bradenton, Florida, Karen Sutter of Arizona, Kevin (Dian) White of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Kelly White and friend Jody Phelps of North Liberty and Kirby (Kim) White of Williamsburg; 10 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and longtime special friend: Betty Dill of Keota.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Patricia in 1995; daughter: Karyl White; granddaughter: Elizabeth White; daughter-in-law: Linda White; three brothers: Francis White, James White and Edward White and two sisters: Genevieve Tuminello and Madeline Reese.

    Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2024, at Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota, with Rev. Robert Lathrop officiating.  Burial will be at Holy Trinity Cemeteries - St. Mary’s Cemetery in Keota, with military rites by the Keota V.F.W. Post #4716.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the church.

    In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Keota Volunteer Fire Department or the Keota Flag Project.  Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Chuck and his family.  Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
