Marengo-Clyde Arthur Black was born October 8, 1916 on the Windy Ridge Farm Southwest of Williamsburg, the son of Arthur and Elsie Rosella Hall Black. He graduated from Marengo High School. Clyde was united in marriage to Jeannette Bavis on May 15, 1938 in Conroy. Together they spent most of their lives in the Iowa County area and the last 60 years on the farm west of Conroy. Clyde has worked as a plant superintendent for the following companies, Highway Equipment in Cedar Rapids, Krauss Equipment in Walford and Divine engineering in Cedar Rapids, retiring in the early 80's. Clyde enjoyed bowling, fishing, being a basketball official and was a avid Yankee and Hawkeye fan. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg. Clyde died Monday, March 7, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids after a short illness at the age of 88 years. He is survived by his wife Jeannette of Marengo; three children: Don (Sharon) Black of Newton, Sue (David) Bengford of Marion and Gary (Rose) Black of Lena, Illinois; six grandchildren: Andy (Colleen) Black, Coleen (Brad) Hubler, Carrie (Pat) Mick, Chris (John) Shannon, Diane (Brian) Sloan and Jennifer (Scott) Livermore; nine great grandchildren. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Lyle. Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2005 at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg with Rev. James Stewart officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be Saturday 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are for the First Presbyterian Church.
