Cody Justin Garrett

South English- Cody Justin Garrett was born February 4, 2008, in Iowa City, Iowa, a son of Timothy Justin and Laura Michele (VanDee) Garrett. He was a 2026 graduate of English Valleys High School in North English. Cody was a lifelong resident of South English.

Codeman, as he was often referred to by those who love him, was known for his infectious smile, sense of humor and keen interest in good gossip! He enjoyed musical instruments, watching game shows and Hawkeye Football with the guys. He loved time spent with his family, especially his big brother Ethan, who he simply adored. And the family’s dogs Lucy and Bruno who were loyal companions, often right by his side.

Born with a rare multi-system genetic disease, “Tuberous Sclerosis Complex”, Cody fought many courageous battles. He was supported by some of the very best care givers, therapists, educators and medical professionals over his lifetime. His legacy will live on thru all that he taught them.

Cody died on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, at the age of 18 years.

Those left to cherish Cody’s memory are his parents Timothy & Laura Garrett of South English; a brother Ethan (friend Celie Clubb) Garrett of Oxford; grandparents Daryl & Melody Van Dee of North English and Richard & Ann Garrett of South English; uncles and aunts Todd & Sarah Van Dee of North English and Troy & Jennifer Garrett of Cedar Falls; also cousins Blake & Adah Van Dee and Marissa & Delaney Garrett. He was preceded by his great grandparents.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 am on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the English Valleys High School in North English. Please come as you are. Cody would want you to be comfortable. Feel free to represent him with EV Bears or Iowa Hawkeye attire if you wish.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in North English. A general memorial fund has been established or donations may be given to Amazin’ Grayson Foundation and Make A Wish Iowa in Cody’s honor.
