Cory Dean Van Winkle, age 31 of Brooklyn, formerly of Marion, died Friday evening, September 7, 2018. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 14, 2018, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Private inurnment will be in Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to his children, in care of Kloster Funeral Home, PO Box 341, Brooklyn, IA 52211.
Cory is survived by his mother Janet Jones (Rod) of Brooklyn; two daughters, Aliyah Van Winkle and Aubriana Van Winkle, both of Cedar Rapids; his companion, Alysha Cornelius of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Shay Van Winkle (Kristin) of Cedar Rapids, and Christopher Van Winkle (Sydney) of Cedar Rapids; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Cory was preceded in death by his father Rodney in 2013, his grandparents, and an aunt Teresa Cooling.
Cory Dean Van Winkle was born August 10, 1987 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Rodney Dean and Janet Louise Mikesh Van Winkle. He attended the Linn Mar schools. Cory was employed with Jeld-Wen Manufacturing in Grinnell as a forklift operator. He loved his family dearly, especially his two daughters. He generously gave of himself, helping whenever and whatever was needed, was fun-loving, and had a great sense of humor. Cory considered himself “a country boy” who loved to fish, hunt, and spend time at Holiday Lake. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed music and creating his own rhythms.
