Daniel Joseph Vanersvelde

Daniel Joseph VanErsvelde, age 17 of Huxley, died Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from injuries suffered in a house fire. Memorial Services: 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 17, 2018, Ballard High School Gymnasium, 701 Ballard Drive, Huxley, Iowa 50124. Rev. Emily Peasley will officiate. Private inurnment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends following the service from 3 to 5 P.M. in the gymnasium. Memorials may be directed to the family c/o Kloster Funeral Home, P.O. Box 341, Brooklyn, Iowa 52211. The family requests no flowers; they will instead be doing a balloon release following the service. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dan is survived by his mother, Julie McLain; his sisters, Jill and Alison; his grandparents, Robert and Ellen McLain, and Jim and Janet VanErsvelde; aunts and uncles, Bill McLain, Molly and Chad Tanke, Todd and Diane VanErsvelde, and Troy VanErsvelde; cousins, Courtney VanErsvelde, Nicole VanErsvelde, Clayton McLain, and Eliana Tanke.

He was preceded in death by his father Brett on October 7, 2018 and an uncle Mike VanErsvelde in 1994.

Dan was born July 8, 2001 in Ames, Iowa, the son of Brett VanErsvelde and Julie McLain. He attended the Ballard School in Huxley, Iowa. Dan was a member of the Slater United Methodist Church. He loved art, especially using the computer or a tablet, and sidewalk chalk. Dan participated in baseball with the Ankeny Miracle League, and loved swimming, riding his scooter, and jumping on the trampoline.
