David Lee Hartz

Williamsburg- David Lee Hartz, born December 6, 1941, to Maurice and Ethel (Stanerson) Hartz, graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1960. In 1968, he married Joyce Speas, and they had two children before later divorcing. David farmed near Marengo until 1979, when he began working at Kinze Manufacturing. He served as a product service manager for many years and continued in the support test department after retirement, working both in Iowa and Florida.

In his younger days, David enjoyed playing semi-pro baseball. Later in life, his passions included photography, gardening, and cheering for the Cubs and Hawkeyes, along with farming. He passed away on December 1, 2025, at the age of 83 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

David is survived by his two children, Michael (Jodi) Hartz of Decorah and Karla (Dave) Zahradnik of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a brother, Maurice Hartz Jr. of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gary Hartz and Darrell Hartz, as well as three sisters-in-law, Kathy Hartz, Susie Hartz and Terry Hartz.

Celebration of life visitation will be Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Eastern Iowa Bible Camp near Deep River. Messages and tributes may be directed to www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
