David Lee Stevens, age 85 of Marengo, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Compass Memorial, in Marengo, following a sudden illness. Funeral Services:10:30 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2018, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo with Fr. David Wilkening officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military honors. Visitation: 3-6 p.m.. Sunday, April 29, 2018, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A memorial fund has been established.
David is survived by his siblings: two brothers, Donald (Janet) and Gary (Judy), all of Cedar Rapids; and six sisters, Pat Seye (Bob) of Ladora, Marcella Hilton of Cedar Rapids, Loretta Booth of Sheboygan, WI, Mary Mumm of Marengo, Janet Fish (Kenny) of Morehead City, NC, and Beverly Neswold (Larry) of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are two sister-in-laws, Diane Stevens of Fairfax, and Gelene Stevens of Ankeny, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Florence Minnaert Stevens, and four brothers, Leroy, Laverne, Bernard and Wayne “Tom” Stevens, and brothers-in-law, Jack Booth, Gary Hilton and Gary Mumm.
David was born February 13, 1933 in Marengo, Iowa, the son of Ben and Florence Minnaert Stevens. He graduated from the Hilton Consolidated School, Conroy with the Class of 1952. David served in the U.S. Army from 1953-55 during the Korean Conflict. When he returned to the area, he farmed alongside his father and mother for many years. David moved into Marengo following an explosion that destroyed his home in 2006.
David enjoyed his occupation as a farmer. He liked mowing lawns, and was especially talented in woodworking. He looked forward to his frequent trips to Hobby Lobby and Harbor Freight, and would spend many hours perusing the merchandise. He was often found dining with friends at Big G, and catching up on all the news. David enjoyed spending all the holiday meals with the Seye family.
