G. Dean Stafford, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. According to his wishes, Dean has been cremated. There will be no formal services at this time. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery, at a later date. Friends may sign the register book at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel on Friday, February 27, 2015, during normal business hours. A memorial has been established. Contributions may be given to Sandy Hoguet and left for her at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, 709 East Mapleleaf Drive, P.O. Box 656, Mount Pleasant, IA, 52641. Born in Henry County, IA, on December 20, 1937, Glen Dean was the son of Glen and Hattie Brown Stafford. He was a Mt. Pleasant High School graduate. Dean joined the Air Force, during peace time, and served for four years. Known always as a hard worker, Dean was a cement worker and finisher. For many years he owned and operated the Oakland Mills Store, where he also served as the cook. Dean loved to fish. He also liked to hunt and to search for mushrooms in the spring. A talented musician, he played the Dobro and sang in The Cimmarons, a local country western band known throughout southeast Iowa, for many years. Survivors include Sandy Hoguet, a loving companion of 18 years. Dean was the father of six children and two grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Evelyn Riley of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Violet Mills of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Pauline Hinkle of Burlington, IA; one brother, Wayne Stafford of Winfield, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John Henry Stafford, Don Beames, and Paul Stafford; and three sisters, Ruth Yakle, Ferne Hill, and Mary Louise Stafford, who died in infancy.
