Dennis “Dillon” Dean Marshall, age 64 of Marengo, passed away, Sunday July 30, 2017 at St. Luke’s Unity Pointe Hospice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 2 to 6 P.M. Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the Thomas Park Safe Room Facility, Thomas Park, 343 Marion Blvd., Marion, Iowa. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.
He is survived by a daughter Tracy Hayzlett Marshall (Kevin Hayzlett) of Ladora; step-daughters, Lori Grimm of Norway, Heather Lishego (Brian) of Marengo, Sarah Hoyt (Eric) of Marengo, and Kelly Darling of Cedar Rapids; step-sons Philip Marshall (Somer) of Marengo, and Jeremiah Hawkins of Marengo; three grandchildren, Dillon, Kensey (Tori) and Kayden; and two great-grandchildren, Jace and Abel. Also surviving are his siblings, Randall Marshall of Cedar Rapids, Colleen Marshall of Cedar Rapids, David Marshall (Sonya) of Marion, and Mark Marshall of Anamosa, longtime companions, Cheryl, Bobbie and Cindy; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson Xander, and great-grandson Shayde, and his pet dogs, Tony, Bo, Mitzie and Charlie.
Dennis was born July 16, 1953 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Jack French Marshall and Jean Ann Leonard Marshall. He graduated from Iowa Valley High School with the Class of 1972, and married Cheryl Messerschmitt on April 1, 1972. They welcomed a daughter in September of 1972. The couple later divorced. Dillon was employed as a crane operator with McComas-Lacina Commercial Construction. He enjoyed watching westerns, hunting, and fishing. He spent many hours on woodcrafting, making mushroom sticks, chairs, and birdhouses. He loved his dogs, and spending time with his family, and enjoying the outdoors, where he taught many about all the things that he loved and skills he had mastered.
