Richland- Diane Louise Thomann was born February 15th, 1957, in Iowa City, Iowa to E. Lawrence and Alberta Josephine (Janecek) Thomann. Diane was the eldest of 7 children. Diane died on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family. Diane died of pancreatic cancer.
Diane graduated from Pekin Community School in 1975. She attended Indian Hills Community College where she graduated as a registered nurse in 1977.
Diane worked at St Joseph Hospital and Ottumwa Regional Health Center mainly in the operating room. Diane loved her job of helping people. Diane retired in March, 2024.
Diane was a blood donor. She gave 51 units, almost 6 and a half gallons.
Diane loved to travel. Diane visited all 50 states. She traveled to Europe, Italy being her favorite country. In 2010, Diane had the privilege of seeing the Shroud of Turin and the Passion play in Oberammergau. Diane also was able to go on a safari in Africa.
Diane loved to garden. Diane and her family were able to share their produce with friends and family. Diane also loved flower gardening. The family yard is full of flowers.
Diane is survived by her mother, Alberta, sisters Yvonne, Evelyn, and Chris of Richland, Pam (Kevin) Peterson of Burlington, and Julie Reed of West Branch. Nephews Nathan, Grant, Allen, and Jordan and niece Rochell. Aunts Barbara, Doris, and Kay and Uncle Joe and two great nephews.
Diane was preceded in death, by her father, Lawrence and brother Daniel, Uncles Bernard, Donald, James, Edwin, Cliff, and Leroy, Aunts Margie, Vera, Mary Ann, and Carolyn, her paternal and maternal grandparents.
A funeral mass will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Holy Trinity Parish- St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Keota. Burial will be at 1:30 pm in the Friends Cemetery in Richland. Visitation will be on Monday, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, family will not be present. There will also be visitation on Tuesday, from 9:00 am until service time at the church with the family present. Memorials may be given to HTP- St. Mary’s Catholic Altar and Rosary Society, the Wounded Warrior Project, Feeding America or Essence of Life Hospice.
