Donald F. “Donnie” Bunn, age 82, died Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Mayflower Health Care, Grinnell. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 30, 2018, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Visitation will be from 10 – 11:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home. Private Burial Services will follow. A memorial fund has been established.
Donald is survived by his children, Kimberly McDonald, Jan Tuttle (Ed), Alan Bunn, Michele Sadler (Tracy), and Michael Bunn (Vickie); seven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Jim Bunn and three sisters-in-law, Mickie Bunn, Doris Bunn and Evelyn Bunn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lillie Bell Bunn in 2012, four brothers, Noble, Charlie, Carroll and Johnny Bunn, two sisters, Ruth Helm and Frances Montgomery, and three siblings in infancy.
Donald Floyd Bunn was born August 5, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of John Bunn and Tressie Wheeler Bunn. He attended the Brooklyn schools through eighth grade and then enlisted in the U.S. Marines. He proudly served his country for 8 years, working as a teletype operator. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. “Once a Marine, Always a Marine.
Upon his discharge and his return home, Donnie and Lillie Bell Garwood were united in marriage on May 2, 1958 in Iowa City. Donnie worked for the railroad for several years and then went to work for Amana Refrigeration as a forklift driver for almost 20 years.
He enjoyed playing horseshoes and Rolle Bolle, and he loved to take the kids fishing.
He was a member of the Brooklyn American Legion Post 294.
