Donald Lee Rusbult

Marengo-Donald Lee Rusbult was born September 4, 1948, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Wilford and Dorothy (Collingwood) Rusbult. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1966. Don served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1968-1970. Don was united in marriage to Mary Van Dyke on December 8, 1969, in Minnesota. Together they made their home in Marengo. Don worked at Amana Refrigeration for 42 years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #76, IAM Local Lodge 1526, and St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served as an Elder. Don enjoyed fishing, especially his trips to Minnesota, watching Westerns, attending Vietnam reunions, and collecting. Don passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, at the age of 77 years.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Michele (Armen) Van Scoyoc of Belle Plaine and Shannon (Dennis) Fruendt of Victor;4 grandchildren, Tiffany (Jacob) Loffer, Halle (Connor) Doran, Mysti (Alex) Redwing, and Emily (Zach) Van Scoyoc; 2 great-grandchildren, Layken Doran and Ben Lockwood; brother, Robert Rusbult of Brooklyn and daughter-in-law, Tina Rusbult of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Joel Rusbult, and brothers Lloyd and Leroy Rusbult.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo, with Rev. Thomas Van Hemert officiating. There will be no visitation. A private family burial will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery in Illinois. Memorials may be designated to the Fisher House at Hines VA and mailed to 5000 South 5th Ave Building 100 Hines, IL 60141.
