Dorothy Jane Lane

Dorothy Jane (Wiebold) Lane from North English was born Feb 10, 1933 near Williamsburg to parents Irvin Lewis and Emma Jane Rogers Wiebold. Dorothy was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the age of 92 years. She was a resident for a brief time at English Valley Care Center.

Dorothy was baptized by Rev. Henry Grief on March 4, 1933. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 30, 1947 by Rev. Enno Schuelke. Her confirmation Bible verse was Psalm 37 vs 4 “Delight thyself also in the Lord and he shall give you the desires of thine heart.” Dorothy attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School grades 1-8, and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1951. On June 28, 1951 she was united in marriage to Lawrence (Larry) Leroy Lane at the church parsonage. Together they both worked at the Iowa County Home. Later, Dorothy was employed as a CNA/CMA for 26 years at Chatham Oaks Care Facility near Iowa City. Dorothy created genuine friendships with people who shared her joy in numerous hobbies and activities such as crossword puzzles, making quilts, gardening, traveling, singing with the Sweet Adelines, and the church choir. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed meals and fellowship with friends at the North English Senior Center. She loved spending time with her family and attending many of their activities.

She is survived by daughters Bonnie Sue Lane Jones, of Ault CO., and Barbara Jane Lane Bowser of Chandler, AZ, and son Dale Lewis (Colleen) Lane of Williamsburg. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Jodie (Rohn) Baumgartner of Hudson, CO, Mandy (Neil) Hinrichsen of Williamsburg, Jeremy (Stefanie) Jones of Healey KS, Heather (George) Neacsu of Walnut Creek, CA, Briana (Sean) Clark of Gilbert, AZ, Tim Carrie of Chandler, AZ, Andrew Farrer from Scottsdale, AZ, Colby Lane, and Britney (Nick) Iburg of Williamsburg, Tina (Josh) Judge of Indianola, IA. Also surviving are 15 great grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. Dorothy is also survived by sister Helen Burck of Deep River, and Ron (Linda) Wiebold, Davenport and niece Becky (Bob) Swartzendruber of Kalona, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry, sons-in-law James (Jim) Jones, and Gary Bowser, sister Louise (Bob) Parrish, brother Lewis Wiebold, brother-in-law Frank (Doc) Dierenfeld. and nephews Darin Burck and Nathan Wiebold.

The family would like to take this time to thank the staff at the English Valley Care Center and Hospice Care for their compassionate respect and admiration of Dorothy as well as neighbors and friends who took the time to visit her.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday June 10th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for Lutheran Interparish School or St. Paul Lutheran Church.
