Earl A. Altemeier, age 84, of Brooklyn, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2017, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, Iowa, with Rev. Brent De Silva officiating. Burial will be in the Chester Cemetery, rural Grinnell, Iowa. Visitation: 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 19, 2017, until service time, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, Iowa. Memorials may be contributed to Brooklyn Community Estate or the Eagles Club in Grinnell.

Earl is survived by his five children Steve Altemeier, of Brooklyn, Stan (Sue) Altemeier, of Newton, Christopher Altemeier, of Brooklyn, Nancy Evans, of Brooklyn, and Bonnie Taylor of Montezuma; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three brothers Leo, Clyde and Doyle; three sisters Karen, Jan and LaVonn. He is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn in 2007, his parents, two grandsons Jeramiha Earl Taylor and Steven Mercer, and a brother Dwane.

Earl was born March 10, 1933, in Newburg, the son of Morris and Beulah Anderson Altemeier. He graduated from Newburg High School. Earl served four years in the National Guard. He was stationed in Minnesota where he served as a radio operator. He met his wife, Carolyn Sue Ingram, in high school, and they were united in marriage on January 1, 1952, in Bentonville, Arkansas. In the early years, Earl worked road construction, driving both scrapers and finish blades, building Interstate 80 in both Iowa and Illinois in the 1960’s. He also drove bulldozer and dump truck for Manatts, Inc. For most of his career, he drove semi truck in Iowa and Illinois and was owner/operator of Lone Pine Mobile Home Park, in Brooklyn. Earl belonged to both the Elks Club and the Eagle’s Club in Grinnell.
