Williamsburg-Earl Herman Hopp was born November 17, 1920 near Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of William H. and Rose Wille Hopp. He attended Trinity Lutheran School in Conroy. He was baptized December 14, 1920 and confirmed in 1934 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. Earl served in the Army in WWII. He was united in marriage to Lillian Maas September 25, 1948 at the St. Paul Parsonage in Williamsburg. Earl has been a life long resident of the Iowa County area. He worked Roehrkasse Meat Locker for 29 years and at the Colony Haus Motor Inn at Little Amana for 6 years until retiring in 1985. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed playing cards, caring for his granddaughters and tinkering around with carpentry. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 in Williamsburg. Earl died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a brief illness at the age of 83 years, 6 months and 5 days. He is survived by his wife Lillian; two sons: Gary (Barb) Hopp and Randy ( Marcia) Hopp; a daughter: Carolyn Hopp all of Williamsburg; two granddaughters: Haley and Ashley Hopp; a brother: Herbert Hopp of Ladora and sister: Alice Kleinmeyer of Williamsburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Helen Hopp, brothers: Clarence, Wilfred, Alfred, Otto and Elmer. Celebration of Life Service will be Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Rev Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg.
