DELTA-Eathyl N. Bird, age 101, of Sigourney, formerly of Delta, died Friday, October 8, 2004, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney following a brief illness. Eathyl was born on July 26, 1903, in Poweshiek County, to Charlie and Mary (Mercer) White and attended Carnsforth school. On May 17, 1919 she married Jerry Bird in Webster, Iowa. He died on May 11, 1963. Eathyl lived in Delta most of her married life where she worked by taking in laundry, cooking, babysitting and caring for the elderly in her neighborhood. She moved to the Manor House Care Center in Sigourney earlier this year. Eathyl enjoyed her grandchildren, cooking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, visiting friends and playing cards. Survivors include two daughters: Dorothy Crook and husband Verlin of Waterloo, Iowa and Alice Cannon; four sons: Harold and wife Hazel of Hayesville, Donald and wife Gwen of What Cheer, Bobby and wife June of Riverside, California and Leonard and wife Diane of Marengo; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and one sister: Mabel Rhinehart of Victor. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son: Jesse, two sisters: Mildred and Eva and two brothers: Charles and Wilbur. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 11, 2004, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney with Vince Homan officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery south of Delta. Visitation with the family present will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2004, at the funeral chapel. A memorial fund has been established for Manor House Care Center or the Keokuk County Health Center. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
