Edna Glee McGovern Page Holmes the daughter of Owen and Edna Turnipseed McGovern was born October 1, 1912, at the old Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa. She was very proud af that because it was the first rural county hospital in the United States, and she always said, "The first baby girl, but not the first baby!" Her mother died when she was 4 years old. She came to Keota to be part of the family of Harry and Mae Page and their children, Harold, Leland and Eva. She graduated from Keota High School with the class of 1930, of which she was secretary and treasurer. She attended the University of Commerce in Carthage, Illinois. On November 19, 1931 she was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Holmes in Carthage. To this union were born 5 children - Barbara (Xen) Stoner, Helen (Joe) Harding, Kenneth A. (Patty) Holmes, Marilyn (Chuck) Smith, and Margaret Starcevich. She was a homemaker and she worked part time at Keota Electric and Lagos Acres Pro Shop. Glee was a member of the United Church of Faith, the Presbyterian Ladies Group, TTT-AV, Order of the Eastern Star and a former member of the Rebekah Lodge. Her main enjoyment was being with family and friends, playing cards and listening to music. Glee died peacefully on Saturday, February 26, 2005 at Maplewood Manor in Keota at the age of 92 years. Glee is survived by a daughter - Helen Harding of Keota; a son Kenny Holmes and wife Patty of Higginsville, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her adoptive parents and their children; 3 daughters - Margaret Starcevich, Barbara Stoner, Marilyn Smith; 2 sons-in-law Joe Harding and John DeWitte; a grandson - Mike Stoner; and a sister - Gayle McGovern.
A memorial fund has been established for the United Church of Faith.
