KEOTA-Edwin Luers, age 74, of Keota, was released from the cares and burdens of this world when his mortal body put on immortality on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at his home.
Edwin was born December 21, 1951, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Milo and Betty (Molyneux) Luers. He graduated from English Valleys High School in 1970 and completed the Farm Operations Major at Iowa State University in 1973. On July 5, 1975, he married Rita Jones at Prairie Flower Baptist Church. The couple lived and farmed in rural Keota for many years. Edwin was a member of Prairie Flower Baptist Church and The Gideons International. He enjoyed farming, encouraging others spiritually, watching races, going to tractor pulls and attending his grandchildren’s sporting activities.
Survivors include his wife: Rita of Keota; four children: Lora (Joel) Banister of Somonauk, Illinois, Lisa (Willie) Van Der Molen of Wellman, Lynnae (Shane) Callison of Ventura and Will (Melissa) Luers of Keota; 18 grandchildren: Myranda Banister, Titus Banister, Evan (Belle) Van Der Molen, Sadie Van Der Molen, Ellie Van Der Molen, Sawyer Van Der Molen, Cayden Callison, Carson Callison, Chase Callison, Chandler Callison, Anna Luers, Will Samuel Luers, Isaiah Luers, Belle Luers, Gamon Luers, Kendall Luers, Asa Luers and Uriah Edwin Luers; sister: Luann (Bill) Pack; nephew: Tanner Pack; niece: Ramsey Pack; mother-in-law: Marjorie Jones and sister-in-law: Linda Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents: Will and Rosalie Luers and Albert and Agnes Molyneux; father-in-law: Robert Jones and sister-in-law: Marsha Jones.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Prairie Flower Baptist Church in rural Washington, with Pastors Tim O’Tool and Willie Van Der Molen officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery in rural Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the church.
A memorial fund has been established for Prairie Flower Baptist Church, the Iowa Regular Baptist Camp or Gideons International. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Edwin and his family. Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
