North English- Eleanor May Wichmann, was born May 25, 1928, at home near Atkins, Iowa, the daughter of Karl & Emma Katherine (Gerhold) Happel. She attended St. Stephen’s Parochial School and graduated from Atkins High School.
On June 6, 1948, Eleanor was united in marriage to Raymond Chris Wichmann at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Williamsburg community. Eleanor was a member of St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsburg where she was very active in the bible class. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening and mowing. Eleanor died on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the English Valleys Care Center in North English, at the age of 97 years.
She is survived by three children Richard (Karen) Wichmann of Williamsburg, Diane (Maynard) Holub of Cedar Rapids and Kenneth (Gloria) Wichmann of Williamsburg; five grandchildren Aaron (Tonya) Sandersfeld, Lindsay (Dustin) Stutzman, Clint (Elizabeth) Wichmann, Emily (Marcus) Shemwell and Ashley (Nicholas) Ball; great grandchildren Zachary, Sydney & Adilyn Stutzman, Regan & Jaret Sandersfeld, Samuel, Madison & Nicholas Shemwell; Jacob, Liam & Megan Wichmann; and Kolden & Logan Ball; and a special nephew Jay (Julie) Happel. She was preceded by her parents; husband Raymond in 2015; and two brothers Karl Happel and Herbert Happel.
Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 am on Monday, November 24, 2025, at St. Timothy Evangelical Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Williamsburg. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 3:00-6:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Memorials may be given to The Iowa County Food Bank or the Lutheran Interparish School. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
