Pleasant High School. On June 28, 1939, she married Charles Edward DeVol in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1978. As a young adult Emma worked at DeVol Nursing Home. She was a rock hound and used the rocks she found to make jewelry and pictures. Emma loved to cook, garden, can, and share her bounty with family. Emma is survived by two daughters, Yvonne K. (Wray) Sloan and Linda L. Sloan, both of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and a son Edward (Truly) DeVol of Canyon Lake, TX. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Tamra Gilmore, Robin Sloan, Barbara Martin, John Sloan, Lauri Sloan, Jeffrey Sloan, Jamie Sloan, Eddie DeVol, Mac Montgomery, and Angie Paniagua, along with 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Along with her husband and parents, Emma was preceded in death by a brother William Vaughn, and a son-in-law, Lauren Sloan.
