Williamsburg-Esther Geraldine Trimpe Young Sandersfeld was born April 24, 1934, rural Deep River, Iowa. The daughter of William and Maria (Burke) Jahlas Sr. She grew up in the Deep River area where she attended school. She was baptized on June 3, 1934 and confirmed on May 16, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Victor. Esther was united in marriage to Alfred Trimpe on October 6, 1951 at St. John’s Lutheran Church rural Victor. They made their home on the family’s farm near Homestead and were blessed with five children. Alfred died on September 23, 1985. Esther was united in marriage to Clarence Young on February 18, 1989, at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Homestead. Clarence died February 14, 2009. In 2011 Esther was married to Vernon Sandersfeld at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Homestead. Vernon died July 25, 2018. Esther had worked as a waitress at Colony Village, a cook and pie baker at Zuber’s Restaurant and Homestead Kitchen. She enjoyed cooking, baking cakes (weddings, graduations and confirmations), making her famous potato salad and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid near Homestead. Esther died Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 92 years.
Esther is survived by her children: Robert (Rita) Trimpe of Williamsburg, Diane (Gene) Von Ahsen of Homestead, Beverly Arp of Oxford and Dean (Linda) Trimpe of Williamsburg; 13 grandchildren; numerus great grandchildren; step children Steve (Becky) Sandersfeld and David Sandersfeld; step grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands, son Keith Trimpe in 1971, a granddaughter Abbey Lynn Trimpe in 1986, great grandson Tate Schaefer in 2021, son-in-law Terry Arp in 2024 and brothers, Harold, Bill, LaVerne, and Raymond Jahlas and sisters Mildred Trimpe and Marie Trimpe.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Monday, June 1, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church near Homestead. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 am until service time at the church. A memorial fund has been established for Lutheran Interparish School or St. John’s Lutheran Church Homestead.
