Evelyn Catherine Meyer was born on Sunday, February 19, 1905 in Benton County near Luzerne, Iowa, the daughter of William and Sarah Cummins Duncalf. She attended Union #8 country school near Van Horn, graduated from Van Horn High School and attended Coe College. Evelyn was united in marriage to John C. Meyer on August 15, 1926. She was a homemaker and they farmed together in the Luzerne, Chelsea and Belle Plaine communities. John died on October 14, 1960. Evelyn remained on the farm until moving into Williamsburg in 1966. She has been a resident of Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo since July 1996. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic church and Alter and Rosary Society in Williamsburg. Evelyn died on Thursday, October 7, 2004 at the Rose Haven Nursing Home after an extended illness, at the age of 99 years, 7 months and 19 days. Survivors include a son Wayne Meyer of Marshalltown; a daughter Elaine Shaull of Williamsburg; two grandchildren: Larry Shaull and wife Colleen of Williamsburg and Cathy Shaull of Arvada, Colorado; two great grandchildren: Todd Shaull and wife Melanie of Cedar Rapids and Emily Phillips and husband Shane of Williamsburg; three great, great grandchildren: Patrick and Breanna Shaull and Landon Phillips; and a sister Ruth Landuyt of Belle Plaine. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, two sisters: Clarice Madison and Helen Rieck and four brothers: Donald, Bernard, Leo and Wilfrid Duncalf. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. , Monday, October 11 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Belle Plaine with Father Keith Birch officiating. Burial is in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine. Visitation is from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg with a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. and from 9:30 until service time, on Monday, at the church. A Memorial Fund is for Alzheimer's Research.
