Evelyn Rose Schmidt

February 6, 1941 — February 6, 2023

Williamsburg-Evelyn Rose Schmidt was born February 6, 1941, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Gladys (Baker) Zuber.  She graduated from Deep River-Millersburg High School in 1959.  Evelyn was united in marriage to Ronald Schmidt on July 9, 1960, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Millersburg.  The couple later divorced.   She has worked at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, for ServiceMaster, McDonalds and at Holden’s as a custodian until her retirement.  Evelyn enjoyed writing poetry; she received the Merit of Honor Medallion at the International Library of Poetry.  She also enjoyed playing many musical instruments and gardening.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Williamsburg.  Evelyn died Monday, February 6, 2023, at her home at the age of 82 years.

She is survived by her children: Dennis Schmidt (Pam) of Cedar Park, TX, Kathryn Vaughn of Honolulu, HI, TX, Rhonda Mezner (John) of Santa Fe, NM, Steve Schmidt (Tracy) of Williamsburg, Annie Baker (Tim Lewis) of Iowa City, Pam Schmidt (S. Audie Foster) of Rocklin, CA, Tim Schmidt (Anya) of Trophy Club, TX, Jeremy Schmidt (Lucy) of Grinnell, and Jonathan Schmidt of Williamsburg; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Viola Davis.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.  Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 until service time.  Burial will be at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Williamsburg.  Messages and tributes may be directed to www.powellfuneralhomes.com
