Faye Lucille Mertz was born on November 25, 1919 near Devon, Kansas, a daughter of John and Myrtle McKee Hall. She graduated from High School in Fort Scott, Kansas, and attended Fort Scott Junior College. Fay was united in marriage to Frank C. Mertz on June 1, 1940, in Fort Scott. They made their home in Fort Scott and Manhattan, KS before moving to North English, IA in 1952. "Doc" and Faye have resided in Knoxville for the past three years. Faye was a member of the North English United Methodist Church, past president of the Eastern Iowa Veterinary Medical Association Auxiliary, the Fortnightly Club and was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She worked many years as a bookkeeper at Evans Photography and at Knoll Ridge Country Club in North English. Faye died following an extended illness on Sunday, June 5, 2005 at West Ridge Nursing Center in Knoxville, IA. She lived 85 years, 6 months and 11 days. Surviving are her husband Dr. Frank C. Mertz of Knoxville; two sons: Frank Mertz III & wife Susan of Webster, IA; John Mertz and wife Marla of Knoxville; grandsons John and James Mertz of Knoxville; step granddaughters Lori Myers and husband James of Sarrento, FL and Joni Snakenberg of Webster, IA; and two step great grandchildren: Nile and Nola Myers; a brother Eldon Hall of Fort Scott, KS and a sister Margie Emmerson of Hiawatha, KS. Faye was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
