Gary D. Bell was born October 6, 1940 in Lakefield, MN, the son of Arnold and Adeline (Carstensen) Bell. He graduated from high school in Worthington, MN. Gary was married to Karen Schnitker on August 31, 1960; they later divorced. He married Shirley Yoder on September 13, 2003. Gary worked as a manager/procurer in the egg industry. He has lived in several areas in Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Iowa. He served on various boards in the egg industry. Gary attended Iowa City First Mennonite Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, antiquing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Gary died on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at his home in Frytown at the age of 72. Gary is survived by his wife Shirley of Frytown; a son Shane Bell and wife Sara of Iowa Falls; three grandchildren Codi, Allison and Cassie Bell; two step-daughters Elaine Yoder and Erica Yoder of Frytown; two sisters Kathy Smith (Lee) of Wilmont, MN; Nancy Vaske of Rushmore, MN; two brothers Daryl Bell (Pat) of Hopkins, MN; Vernon Bell (Carol) of Pine Island, MN; and a sister-in-law Debbie Bell of Pine Island, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Molly Marie Bell; a brother Richard Bell; a sister Deb Bell; a brother-in-law Marv Vaske; and a father-in-law Lester D. Yoder. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm Friday, October 4, 2013 at Iowa City First Mennonite Church in Iowa City, IA. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until time of service. Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont, MN. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice, Calmar Fire Department, and Wilmont Fire Department. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
