KEOTA-Gary W. Carl, age 66, of Keota, died Thursday, September 3, 2026, at his home.

Gary was born October 16, 1959, in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of David and Joan (Mullikin) Carl and graduated from Washington High School. On October 13, 1979, he married Teresa (Teri) Bowser at the Methodist Church in Washington, Iowa. They lived in Keota, where Gary was a Feed Truck Driver for Farmer’s Co-op Association for 35 years, retiring in October of 2021. He was a member of the United Church of Faith and the National Rifle Association. He also served on the Keota City Council for four years and the Keota Fire Department for five years. Gary was the griller for the Keota QRS for 29 years and was an avid hunter, fisherman, archer, camper, pool player. He loved being outdoors spending time with his family and adored his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife: Teri of Keota; son: Michael (Trish) Carl of Keota; grandchildren: Iiliyah Hill, Kahlan Carl, Kilee Carl, Theo Jubeck and Bindi Jubeck; sisters: Lisa (Carl) Smith of Raymore, Missouri and Lynette (Jim) Lemmon of Claremore, Oklahoma; brother: Tary (Lana) Carl of Coweta, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law: Brenda Carl of Oklahoma and Cindy (John) Snedigar of West Chester and brother-in-law: Steve Hahn of Keota. He was preceded in death by his parents: David and Joan Carl; in-laws: Ronald and Dianne (Schlatter) Bowser; brother: Larry Carl; sister-in-law: Rhonda Hahn and brother-in-law: Tony Bowser.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with Pastor Alan Mullikin and Cindy Snedigar officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established for the Keota QRS or Washington County Hospice. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Gary and his family. Tributes may be made at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
