WAYLAND - Gary Dale Karr was born August 30, 1942 in Richland, Iowa the son of Frank and Ruth (Smith) Karr. He grew up in Washington county and moved to Wayland in 1971. On June 25, 1967 he was united in marriage to Viola Young in Washington. He worked at Modine, Kalona Plastics, Nypro Iowa and the University of Iowa as a custodian. He enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, deer hunting, and bowling. Gary died on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 70 years. Gary is survived by his wife Viola, a daughter Sandra Karr, a son Jason Karr all of Wayland; three sisters - Linda Nason of Harper, Julie Karr of Keota, Holly Sue White of Ottumwa; and two brothers - Greg Karr of Harper, and Scott Karr of West Chester. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters Karen Karr, Shelby Karr and Connie Bienart. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Washington. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice.
