Gary Lee Miller, age 67, of West Amana, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Compass Memorial Hospital, Marengo, Iowa. Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 21, 2017, at Middle Amana Church, Middle Amana, Iowa, with Elder Kristie Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the West Amana Cemetery, with a Masonic Service. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at the Middle Amana Church. Memorials may be contributed to the American Diabetes Association or the Amana Church Society. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Gary is survived by his wife Ellen; his mother Ethel Miller of Marengo; a brother-in-law Dale (Mary Kay) Peck of Galena, IL; a sister-in-law Rev. Anna Peck of Cedar Rapids; an uncle Harvey Oehler of Amana; and an aunt Elsie Oehler of Jacksonville, Florida. He was preceded in death by his father George, five aunts Karen and Helen Louise Oehler, Emilie Graesser, Marilyn Sinnard and Lucille Harbor, and five uncles Orville and William Oehler, Richard Graesser, Gene Sinnard and Leo Harbor.
Gary Miller was born March 8, 1950 in Cedar Rapids, the son of George and Ethel Oehler Miller. He graduated from the Amana Schools in 1969 and received his BA Degree in Education from William Penn University in 1973. He taught sixth grade at Lorenz, and later worked at the Ronneburg Restaurant in Amana for 15 years as a cook. He also worked at Rockwell Collins in the shipping department, retiring in June 2012. Gary enjoyed tinkering around in his machine shop, doing genealogy of his family history, reading, attending the Iowa State Fair and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the Amana Church, Hope Masonic Lodge #175 of Belle Plaine, Iowa and was also involved with the El Kahir Foot Patrol.
