Gary Olson

HEDRICK-Gary Olson, age 59, of Hedrick, died Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties Hospice House in Ottumwa.
    Gary was born August 25, 1964, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Mary Jane (Shaver) Fountain. He moved to Bloomfield as a child and received his education in Bloomfield schools. Gary served in the Army National Guard and drove a truck for J.B. Hunt and other trucking companies. A kind man who would give you the shirt off his back, Gary could be found fishing in whatever body of water he was near at the time. In addition to fishing, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
    Survivors include two children: Cassara (Olson) Renken of Ottumwa and Zachary Olson of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren: Deontae Renken, Devlin Olson, Dylan Davidson and Zaiden McIntosh; his mother: Mary Jane Fountain of Burlington; brother: Mark (Karen) Olson of Burlington; three sisters: Tina (Chad) Lott of Burlington, Laurie Fountain of Ottumwa and Kandi (Jeff) Burris of Huxley; many nieces and nephews, including his “girl” Kaytie. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Lee and Marjorie Pottorff, Mary Ann Waalk and Roy Lee Shaver; father: Charles Fountain; niece: Akrista Fountain and nephew: Kolten Fountain.
