Harold Elgar Beaderstadt, age 92 of Brooklyn, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Brooklyn Community Estate.
Funeral Services: 6:30 P.M. Friday, October 20, 2017, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Visitation: 4 to 6:30 at the funeral home on Friday. Per his wishes, Harold’s body will be donated to science and research following the service. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.
Memorials may be contributed to Diamond Life Care Center or Camp Courageous in Harold’s memory.
Harold is survived by his wife of 69 years, Doralee “Koke”; his children, Frances of Montezuma, Bryan of Brooklyn, John (Janice) of Brooklyn, Beth Sheets (Charlie) of Montezuma, Karla Lynch (Al) of Wasilla, Alaska, and Patty Benal (Gene) of Wahoo, NE; 18 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister Elaine Burk (Don) of Des Moines, a brother Kenneth of Newton and a sister-in-law Charlene Beaderstadt of Johnston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Delmar, Keith and Don.
Harold Elgar Beaderstadt was born February 28, 1925 in Edson, Kansas, the son of James Bryan and Jessie Wyngarden Beaderstadt. His early years were spent in Kansas. The family moved to Iowa when Harold was 16. He attended the Searsboro High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1943-46. Upon his return to the states, Harold and Doralee Cox were married on January 6, 1948 in Leavenworth, Kansas. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator, working in construction and quarry work, retiring in 1987.
Harold enjoyed camping and fishing. He was a very accomplished leatherworker and woodworker. Many family members have gifts from him. In earlier years he enjoyed rolle bolle. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harold was a member of the Brooklyn American Legion Post 294.
