Harry Stonebraker

SIGOURNEY-Harry Stonebraker, age 94, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at his home.

Harry was born December 16, 1931, near Haysville, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Alta (Echelberry) Stonebraker. He attended Bodock and Pleasant Hill schools in Keokuk County until 1940, when his family moved to a farm near Bloomfield. He then attended Liberty School and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1949. On December 31, 1950, he married Norma Lee Danels in Bloomfield, Iowa. The couple lived in the Hayesville area and moved into Sigourney in 1975. Harry worked for Sanitary Dairy, Graber Service Station and Ole Potter until 1975, when he bought the business from Ole and renamed it Stonebraker Service. Harry retired in 1996. Following retirement he ran errands for his son-in-law, Jim. Harry served as Marshall of Hayesville for over 20 years. He enjoyed walking around Sigourney visiting with friends, watching Andy Griffith, Gunsmoke and Matlock, feeding the birds and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, especially babysitting Garrett.

Survivors include a daughter: Peggy (Jim) Eversmeyer of Sigourney; son: Randy Stonebraker and friend LuAnn Berger of Sigourney; special friend: Beverly Christner; grandchildren: Marsha Gilliland and friend Charlie Lippard, Stacey (Curtis) Lilienthal, Sara Rosenow and friend Steve Miller and Stephen Stonebraker and friend Ashley Bunting; great grandchildren: Garrett Rosenow, Addison Miller, Norah Miller and Jace Lilienthal; sisters: Linda (Kris) Johnston of Columbus City and Brenda Comer of Floris and sisters-in-law: Karen Stonebraker of Ottumwa and Verna Rodney of Oceanview, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Norma in 1989; daughter: Shirley in 2020; brothers: Melvin (Helen) Stonebraker and Clarence Junior Stonebraker; brothers-in-law: Greg Comer and Louie Moore and father- and mother-in-law: Leomer (Pug) and Marie Danels

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 2, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sigourney. Burial will be at Pennington Cemetery in rural Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney.
