Helen C. Kelley, 96, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, January 7, 2011, at Arbor Court. The family will receive friends at a visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Plooster officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. Memorials have been established to the First Baptist Church. The daughter of John Hubert and Carrie (Raber) Smith, Helen Carolyn was born November 25, 1914 in Highland Center, IA. A graduate of Packwood High School in 1933, she then attended the Ottumwa Beauty Academy in 1939. On November 23, 1939 she married Bernard E. Kelley in Burlington, IA. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2003. Helen was a housewife devoting herself to her family. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and quilting. While living at Arbor Court she was an avid Bingo player. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Involved in many organizations, she was a member of Quilt Club, Women's Club, Hulda Saunders Questers Club, Northside Mothers Club, the Oakland Mills Ladies Aid, all in Mt. Pleasant, and a former member of ODO Club in Batavia, IA. Survivors include one son, Rodger Kelley of Las Vegas, NV; two daughters, Saundra (Jerry) Londquist of Burlington, IA; Sheryl (Ed) Nelson of Lockridge, IA; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great great-grandson and many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Helen is preceded in death by her parents; a son, John; two sisters, Florence Wilburn and Irene Barron; four brothers, Walter, George, John and Glen Smith; a great-grandson, Drew Killion; and a special nephew, Steve Barron.
