Jackie Nelson Greene, age 87, of Sigourney died March 31,2024 at the English Valley Care Center in North English.
Jackie was born December 9, 1936, and grew up in Portersville, Alabama, the son of Charlie and Dorothy Henderson Greene. He graduated from high school in Collinsville, Alabama and in 1958 married Wanda Adams in Lafayette, Georgia.
Jackie and his family moved to Sigourney, Iowa in 1965 where he helped manage the construction and operation of the Kingsberry Homes manufacturing plant for Boise Cascade Corp. Jackie was later employed by Greenley's Inc., the City of Sigourney and retired from Atwood Electric. He was a veteran of the Alabama Army National Guard.
Jackie enjoyed being outdoors, be it fishing, hunting, or visiting with friends from his front porch swing. He loved talking to people and a conversation with Jackie included his deep Southern drawl and unique turn of phrase and might eventually land on the price of gas. Jackie had a strong affection for country music, a good story, a little bourbon and Alabama football. (Not necessarily in that order), Roll Tide!
Jackie is survived by his children, Susan (Tom) House of Lenexa, KS and Gina (Jason) Rogers of Marion, Iowa, his grandchildren, Amanda House of Irvine, CA and Adam (Kendra) House of Lenexa, KS, a great grandson, Jack Robert House of Lenexa, KS, a sister, Jane Gregory of Sylvania, AL, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda, his parents, brother Kenneth (Shorty), as well as brother Charles, and sister Willard who passed in infancy.
Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Jackie and his family. The family will hold a visitation and celebration of life for both Wanda and Jackie on Saturday, April 13th from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. There will be no service.
