Keota- Janice Kay Wide, age 82, of Keota died on Monday, June 9, 2025, at Parkview Home in Wayland.
Janice was born November 7, 1942, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Jim and Mabel (Chrisman) Harris. She grew up in the Martinsburg community and graduated from Keota High School in 1961. Janice was united in marriage to Robert Wide, on June 10, 1961, in Keota. She helped Bob with farming, worked at Maplehurst Genetics Lab, Dr. Carmichael’s Veterinary Clinic as a lab tech and spent many years working at County Line Mart making sure the community always had something good to eat.
Janice was a member of the United Church of Faith in Keota. She loved being a mother and grandmother. In her younger years Janice enjoyed dancing and hosting neighborhood get togethers. As she got older she enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, antiquing and family history. She will be remembered for making the best fried chicken and having the most beautiful flowerbeds.
She is survived by her three sons, Jim Wide of Keota, Tom Wide of Washington and Dan Wide of Ainsworth; five grandchildren, Brittany (Andy) Rogers, Michael Wide, Lindsay Wide, Jamie Wide and Leah Wide and three great grandchildren, Weston, Owen and Gracelynn Rogers. She was preceded by her parent, and her husband Bob in 2023 and a daughter-in-law Connie Wide.
A celebration of life gathering will be Friday, June 13, 2025, at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Burial will be at a later date at the Garrett Cemetery, near Delta. Memorials may be given Ss. Peter and Paul Church or the Keota Museum. Powell Funeral Home in Keota is caring for Janice and her family.
