Jerry Lee Young, 73, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the Banner Gardens Hospice House in Mesa, Arizona. Cremation has been accorded. A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, from 5-7 p.m., where the family will receive friends. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 26th, at 1:00 p.m. in the Forest Home Chapel, with Pastor Jeff McPheron officiating. A memorial has been established for ARC of Henry County. The son of Earl and Wanda (Carpenter) Young, Jerry Lee Young was born on August 20, 1939 in Henry County, Iowa. He attended Mt. Pleasant High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Greenland. On July 30, 1973, he married Joyce Barr in Fremont, Nebraska. Jerry worked as a repairman at J.I. Case in Burlington, IA. He retired from this position after 30 years of service. For twelve years, Jerry and his wife, Joyce, would volunteer to sell t-shirts for the ARC of Henry County at Midwest Old Threshers. An avid outdoorsman, Jerry loved fishing and mushroom hunting. In his younger days, he enjoyed pheasant hunting. He was a lifetime member of the Gold Wing Touring Association. For the past twelve years, Jerry and Joyce wintered in Mesa, Arizona. They belonged to the Mesa Road Runners Club, and did a lot of riding with snowbirds that came to Arizona. The couple often volunteered for the Mesa Regal RV Resort where they lived. Jerry also enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Hy-Vee Coffee Club. Jerry was of the Protestant faith. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; a son, Jerry Eugene Young; a daughter, Wanda Maxeen Burge; two granddaughters; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceding him in death are his mother; a son, Virgil Lee Young; and his grandmother.
