Kalona – Jin Lee Kozue, formerly known as Brad Fanatia, was born on July 12, 1996, in Iowa City, the beloved son of Tommy (Shelly) Shultz and Denise Coblentz. Jin graduated from Mid-Prairie High School with the class of 2015, then moved to Montana to become a forest firefighter. In October 2019, Jin joined the United States Army and served for four years as a combat engineer before being honorably discharged in 2023. Following his service, Jin moved back to Kalona.
Although a quiet and private individual, Jin was fondly remembered by family and friends for his positivity, love of animals, and his ability to see the brighter side of everything. He cherished cooking, spending time in nature, and being with his family. Jin always extended a helping hand whenever there was a need.
Jin Lee Kozue passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024, in rural Washington County at the age of 28.
He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Elizabeth (Michael, their children Victoria and Susanna) Cox and Kayla (Devin Ulin their children Flynn and Lyric) Fanatia; a brother, Austin (Dakota their children Jerry and Beau) Fanatia, grandparents Donna and Joseph Fanatia, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jerry Lee and Lena Ruth Coblentz, Uncle Ryan Knepp and Cousin Paul Hanna.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, November 4, 2024 at Yoder Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A visitation will be held from 9:00 am until service time. Messages may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
