Joan Lee Cobb-Vinton, 72, of Iowa City, passed away on June 14, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Joan was born January 29, 1954, in Sigourney, Iowa, to Edgar Rufus and Lillie Elizabeth (Hall) Cobb. She attended English Valleys High School and grew up in North English. Throughout her career, Joan dedicated herself to helping others through work in crisis intervention, substance abuse counseling, and mental health services in Iowa and Maine. Following her retirement in 2016, she returned to Iowa City.

In 1999, Joan married David Vinton in Alfred, Maine. She enjoyed traveling, especially along the East Coast, to Florida, and Colorado. She loved animals, beach walks, and spending time in nature.

Joan is survived by her brother, Donald (Debra) Cobb of Marengo; stepdaughter, Debra Vinton; nieces Dionne Harr, Samantha King, Amanda Leffler, and Debra Boyd; and nephews Rick Cobb, Christopher Cobb, and Terry Fetzer. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David, in 2006; sisters Shirley Fetzer and Kandy Cummins; brother Samuel Cobb; and nephews Steven Fetzer and Scott Cobb.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Powell Funeral Home in North English from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A private family burial will follow. Memorials may be directed to the Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com
