John F. Kauffman was born Saturday, May 22, 1937 near Wellman, Iowa the son of Chester and Catherine (Clingdanel) Kauffman. He attended Iowa Mennonite School. On June 18, 1958 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Miller at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. They have lived in Iowa City, rural Riverside and Kalona. John worked as a mechanic and was shop foreman at Iowa City Coach Company. He was a member of the Kalona Christian Fellowship Church, and a former member of the Christian Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed studying Bible prophecy, camping, John Deere tractors and fixing things. John died on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City from cancer at the age of 67 years. John is survived by his wife Carolyn of Kalona; 3 children - Teresa Finch of Riverside; Amy Almeida and husband Greg of Tracy, California; Eric Kauffman and wife Heather of Austin, Texas; 7 grandchildren; his mother - Catherine Kauffman of Riverside; 4 sisters - Erma Ropp of Kalona; Marilyn Hunt of Riverside; Dawn Whitlock of Riverside; Gayle Barrett of Mount Vernon, Washington; and 2 brothers - Wayne Kauffman and Robert Kauffman of Chicago, Illinois. John was preceded in death by his father; and 2 brothers - infant Paul Richard Kauffman and Lowell Kauffman.
In lieu of flowers a general memorial fund has been established.
