SIGOURNEY-John F. Weidlein, age 84 years, 9 months, 19 days, of Sigourney, died Thursday, September 30, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City following a brief illness. John was born December 11, 1919, in Wellman, Iowa, to Hallie and Wilna (Smith) Weidlein. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1938 and attended Iowa State University. On November 9, 1941, he married Dorothy Webb in Lancaster, Missouri. John served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945 during WWII. A 70-year resident of Sigourney, he sold General Motors vehicles for Century Motors in Sigourney from 1946 until 1980 and owned and operated an 80 acre farm. John also served as Keokuk County Recorder from 1983 until 1995 and was on the Sigourney City Council for six years in the 1950's. He was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church, Sigourney Housing Board, Webb Lodge #182 A.F. & A.M. and was a Keokuk County Fair volunteer. Survivors include his daughter: Carolynn K. Johnson of Bellevue, Washington; son: William E. Weidlein and wife Shelli of The Woodlands, Texas; one grandson: Sgt. Stephen M. Johnson of Hawaii and Afghanistan; cousin: Murval Weidlein of Wellman; brother-in-law: Col. Stanley Mamlock, USAF Ret. of Spanoway, Washington; niece: Nancy and nephew Scott Mamlock. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Dorothy in 2000 and sister-in-law: Betty Mamlock. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 4, 2004, at the Sigourney United Methodist Church with Rev. John Hembry officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney with military rites by the American Legion Post # 19 and Lacey Kerr V.F.W. Post #2308. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 3, 2004, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. A general memorial fund has been established. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
